We often talk about how planning ahead doesn’t have to be a morbid affair, and we understand that sometimes – like most things in life – it can be easier to do with the support of a friend.
That’s why we wanted to reintroduce the Coles refer a friend scheme* where we’ll be offering a £50 Marks & Spencer gift voucher for every friend referred to Coles Funeral Plans. And we appreciate it’s not always easy to have these difficult conversations with someone close.
So, to help get you started, we wanted to explain a little more about why planning ahead is so important, and the options available to you (and your friends).
So why plan ahead?
From a financial perspective, pre-planning your funeral is a sound financial decision. With funeral costs on the rise every decade, it helps to protect those left behind from any increases in fees when the time comes. However, there are also emotional aspects to consider. We know that without plans or instructions for family members left behind, it can be an overwhelming time. That was certainly the experience of our customers, Lyn and Gordon Long who chose to take out a funeral plan with our following the death of Lyn’s beloved mother.
Why take out a funeral plan
Recent figures show that 48% of those who organised a funeral in 2021 didn’t know if their loved one wanted to be buried or cremated and sadly, 19% of people didn’t know any of their loved one’s funeral wishes. More of us are having conversations around the challenges this brings. You only have to look at the recent Dragon’s Den pitch for Biscuit Tin, the end-of-life digital planning tool, and how this very topic resonated with resident dragon, Deborah Meaden.

What’s available to you?
When you take out a funeral plan you can tailor the service entirely to your wishes. Whether you’d like to include sentimental songs, flowers that hold a personal attachment or simply would like to ensure the day is fuss-free. We offer a range of fixed price plans or can create a completely tailor-made option depending on your needs and wishes.
You may also decide that you might want to conduct a celebration of life service, and 74% of funeral directors across the country have seen a rise in the number of these services. Hit shows including Netflix’s Sweet Magnolias have recently included this type of service to say goodbye to beloved characters and we believe they will only become more popular in years to come.
Whatever you choose to do, our team is here with you every step of the way
